The Mitchell Family has been marketing high line motor coaches since the early 1970s. Mitchell Motor Homes founder, Harvey Mitchell, got into the business by purchasing a motor home for his family. After a summer vacation out west, the Mitchell's became addicted to motor coaching.
Shortly after that first family excursion, Mitchell incorporated in North Carolina, and over time, became Blue Bird's largest dealer. In those earlier years, approximately 42% of Blue Bird's production was marketed through Mitchell Motor Homes.
Mitchell Motor Homes expanded its franchise in the summer of 1984 to Tampa, Florida. Around this time, Harvey Mitchell began looking for alternative high line motor coaches that would offer the customer more customization. Prevost Car, in Quebec, Canada is a seated bus manufacturer that will also convert shells for customizing. With this in mind, and the ability to take conventional class A motor coaches on trade, Harvey contracted with three separate North American converters to become the "Godfather" of marketing for Prevost Bus Conversions.
Mitchell Motor Coach bought Vogue Motor Coach in 1990 recognizing Vogue produced one of the finest, high-end fiberglass coaches. Along with producing high line fiberglass motor coaches, Vogue began converting Prevost coaches. For the next eight years, Vogue converted nearly one hundred Prevost buses into motor coaches. Vogue was sold in 1998.
In 2000, Parliament Coach, another leader in Prevost Bus Conversions became available. Parliament Coach was established in the early 1990's and was already producing one of the highest quality, and technically advanced bus conversions in North America, but it lacked the marketing ability that Mitchell excelled in. It was a perfect match and stands today as the finest quality producer in the industry.
